Veneers in KL: composite vs ceramic, and what they cost

Thin shells fitted to the front teeth to improve shape, spacing or colour. Porcelain veneers need permanent enamel removal, so we explain the trade-off before you commit.

Veneers are thin layers bonded to the front of your teeth to change their shape, colour or size. At Klinik Pergigian Genting in Setapak, composite veneers start from RM350 per tooth and ceramic veneers from RM1,600 per tooth. We check your teeth and gums first and tell you honestly whether veneers are the right answer, or whether whitening, bonding or orthodontics would do the job better.

Starting price, not a quotation. Your personalised treatment plan and fee estimate will be provided following assessment.

What veneers can and can't fix

Veneers work well for:

  • Chipped or worn front teeth
  • Small gaps between front teeth
  • Teeth that are slightly uneven in shape or length
  • Discolouration that whitening can't lift

Veneers are not the right fix for crooked teeth that need moving, for teeth with large fillings or decay, or for a bite problem. In those cases we'll suggest braces, aligners, fillings or crowns first.

Composite is a good choice if you want a lower-cost, reversible change. Ceramic suits patients who want the most natural, long-lasting result and are comfortable with a little enamel being removed.

Who veneers suit

You're a good candidate if your gums are healthy, your front teeth are free of decay, and you don't have a strong habit of grinding your teeth. If you grind at night, we may recommend a night guard to protect the veneers.

The process

  1. Assessment (RM25). We check your teeth, gums and bite, and talk through the look you want.
  2. Planning. We agree the number of teeth, the shade and the shape before any work starts.
  3. Preparation. For ceramic veneers, a thin layer of enamel is removed and impressions are taken. For composite, the tooth surface is prepared and the material is shaped directly on it.
  4. Fitting. Composite veneers are finished in the same visit. Ceramic veneers are bonded at a second visit once they come back from the lab.

Looking after veneers

Brush twice a day, floss, and keep up regular check-ups and scaling. Avoid biting very hard objects such as ice or pen tops with your front teeth. Composite veneers benefit from a polish every so often to keep their shine.

Frequently asked questions

Do veneers damage your teeth? Composite veneers need little or no enamel removed. Ceramic veneers need a thin layer removed, which can't be put back, so it's a long-term decision.

Can I whiten veneers? No. Whitening only works on natural teeth, so if you want whiter teeth overall, whiten first and then match the veneers to your new shade.

Do veneers hurt? Composite veneers usually need no injection. For ceramic veneers, the teeth are numbed during preparation, and some sensitivity for a few days afterwards is normal.

What's the difference between a veneer and a crown? A veneer covers the front of a healthy tooth to improve its look. A crown covers the whole tooth and is used when the tooth is weak or damaged.
